Another Wednesday in August, another off-kilter movie release.

Today's new movie is "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," which is an odd movie indeed — a magic-infused family drama about a childless couple (Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton) who suddenly find they have a 10-year-old son (CJ Adams) that grew in their garden. The boy, named Timothy, quickly proceeds to change the lives not only of his parents, but seemingly everyone else in their small town.

The movie is sappy, to be sure, but it's also rather heartwarming, as director Peter Hedges ("Dan in Real Life") keeps the story nicely grounded.
