Logan • Cam Webb has been the underdog story of Utah State's fall camp.

The senior wide receiver from Mountain Crest High was on the scout team last year, and not deemed any real threat to crack the Aggies' rotation in 2012.

He's been so good since the spring, however, he's a threat to not only crack the rotation, but the starting lineup in his slot position.

Wednesday night's scrimmage introduced Webb to Aggie fans. He caught eight passes for 101 yards, many of those coming from Chuckie Keeton. He showed an understanding of the offense, and consistently got himself open against man or zone coverage.

"Cameron Webb has done a great job," USU head coach Gary Andersen said. "He's played very, very well. He's got a nice little connection going with Chuckie, which is great to see. He's just really done a nice job, and he's making himself a much bigger part of the offense."

Wide receiver is a deep position for the Aggies, which makes Webb's ascent up the depth chart even more impressive. He played in seven games last season, and much of that was on special teams.

But his hands and his route-running have stood out. He has become a trusted guy for Keeton, and could become a valuable player to have on third down, similar to Eric Moats last season.

"Cam said on the sidelines that he wasn't used to getting the ball that much," Keeton said. "But he's catching everything that's being thrown his way, so we have to feed him. He's put in a lot of work, so he deserves everything that he's getting right now."

A familiar face

Former Utah and Weber State head coach Ron McBride has been at USU camp all week, and could be in Logan next week as well, mentoring and offering Andersen advice from an outside perspective.

Andersen played for McBride, and coached under him at Utah.

"I had the opportunity for him to come up because he's not coaching this fall," Andersen said. "He loves the kids, and it means a great deal to me. As you all know, he's like a father to me."

Set for Saturday

Utah State will have a brief situational scrimmage on Aggie family fun day. The team isn't expected to be in full pads. Afterwards, the players will sign autographs for those in attendance at Romney Stadium.
