Throughout the month of August, Tribune writers are tasting our way through some of Utah's finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shave ice in an effort to beat the heat. Today's pick:
Iceberg shakes • Sure, they're a Utah tradition. But you don't get to be a classic unless you're good. My daughters and I returned to Iceberg for three longtime favorites fresh strawberry, brownie, and banana-cookie dough and all three were as good as we remembered. They're made of good ice cream with lots of strawberry and banana and big chunks of brownie and cookie dough. These shakes are so thick you have to eat them with a spoon because a straw would never work.
Iceberg Drive Inn • We went to the one at 1516 W. 5400 South in Taylorsville; other locations include 900 E. 3900 South, Salt Lake City; 1530 S. 500 West, Salt Lake City (inside the Jerry Seiner GM Cafe); 9645 S. State, Sandy; 5049 W. 13400 South, Riverton; 1792 S. 2000 West, Syracuse; 180 N. State, Orem; 5260 W. 11000 North, Highland; and 222 E. St. George Blvd., St. George.
