Provo police used a cellphone found in the Rock Canyon area to identify a body found about 200 feet below a hiking trail Wednesday.

Provo police Sgt. Brandon Post said the man was identified as an 18-year-old Provo resident, but the man's name was not released pending notification of extended family. Post said the man's immediate family has been notified.

Investigators believe the man likely fell from a ledge off the designated Rock Canyon trail area. A hiker Wednesday morning found the man's body, which was dressed in a T-shirt and basketball shorts. He did not have a wallet or any other kind of identification on him, police said.

Investigators found a cellphone in the area where the man's body was found and were able to confirm the man's identity using data on the phone, Post said.
