They know cheese
Three Salt Lake City cheese experts are part of the first class to pass the Certified Cheese Professionals exam, a new certification offered by the American Cheese Society (ACS). Matt Caputo of Tony Caputo's Market and Deli, Andy Fitzgerrell of Whole Food Market, and Troy Petersen of Tony Caputo's on 15th are among 121 food professionals from around the country that passed the exam at the most recent ACS Conference in Raleigh, N.C. Participants are tested on a broad range of topics including raw ingredients, the cheese making process, storing and handling cheese, selecting distributors, marketing and communicating about cheese, nutrition, and regulations and sanitation. The professional exam program was developed over an eight-year period by more than 100 industry experts.
Several northern Utah chefs and caterers are participating in "Get Fresh," a raw food cooking competition and fundraiser for the Junior League of Ogden. Chefs will have 45 minutes to assemble their creation made with fresh, local ingredients. Attendees can watch, sample and vote for their favorites. Live music as well as food and beverages for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the programs of the Junior League of Ogden.

Eden eats in Salt Lake
Eden Grinshpan, host of The Cooking Channel's culinary travel show "Eden Eats," kicks off a new season Friday, Sept. 14, by taking an ethnic food tour of Salt Lake City. Grinshpan's Utah visit includes fish and chips, Mexican beans, Kenyan and Pakistani cuisine, Tibetan food as well as an treats from an Argentinean bakery. She ends her trip with a hot sauce recipe from the Congo. Each week on "Eden Eats," Grinshpan visits a different city discovering original recipes and interacting with the immigrants and locals who share their culture and traditions through food. Tickets are still available for this year's Feast of the Five Senses, the annual fundraiser that benefits Slow Food Utah's micro-grant fund. Eight Utah chefs will create a meal using the bounty from local farms and food producers.
