How things can change in such a short period. On Aug. 28, Mia Love, mayor of Saratoga Springs and Republican candidate for Utah's 4th Congressional District, spoke at the Republican National Convention. Her message was clear and to the point.

Love spoke about those who built America. "When times got tough they didn't look to Washington, they looked within," she said, exhorting self-reliance and "personal responsibility."

Only four days later, on Sept. 1, heavy thunderstorms pelted Saratoga Springs. After mudslides damaged homes and neighborhoods, Love toured the damage. According to The Tribune: "Love said she was working on getting the neighborhood declared a federal disaster zone so the area could potentially receive federal money to assist with the cleanup." So much for self-reliance and looking within!
