Dannon gives $30,000 grant to SLCC

The Dannon Co. will present a $30,000 award to Salt Lake Community College in support of "Know Greater Heroes," a health-and-wellness program designed to promote nutrition and reduce childhood obesity. The award will be presented at 1 p.m. Wednesday during a nutrition fair and activity day at the SLCC Taylorsville Redwood Campus, 4600 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville.

BP selling off its Gulf of Mexico assets

Oil company BP said Monday it is selling some deep-water assets in the Gulf Mexico to Plains Exploration & Production Co. for $5.55 billion, a big step in the BP's drive to cover the cost of its oil well blowout in the Gulf two years ago and concentrate investment elsewhere.

GoDaddy outage takes out sites

Thousands and possibly millions of websites hosted by GoDaddy.com went down for several hours Monday, causing trouble for the mainly small businesses that rely on the service. A Twitter feed that claimed to be affiliated with the Anonymous hacker group said it was behind the outage, but this couldn't be confirmed. GoDaddy said it was investigating the cause.

Japan Airlines in year's 2nd-biggest IPO

Japan Airlines Co. is raising $8.5 billion in its initial public offering, pricing its shares at $48 — the world's second-biggest IPO this year after Facebook. The carrier, which went bankrupt in 2010, will be doubling the money a bailout pumped in. The 175 million shares are set to be listed and traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Sept. 19.
