The Cougars will have to prepare for two quarterbacks this week in Saturday's game against Utah, and neither will be opening-game starter Jordan Wynn.Utah coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed in his noon press conference Monday that Wynn's football career at Utah is over. The junior, who already has his degree, will stay in the program and help as a student assistant with the quarterbacks.Utah released its game notes and depth chart for the BYU game, and said that Wynn is "out indefinitely" after hurting his shoulder again against Utah State. A couple hours later, Whittingham said Wynn is finished playing, but will help out where he can.The release lists senior Jon Hays and freshman Travis Wilson as "co-starters" for the 8:15 p.m. MDT game, which will be televised by SPN2. Hays is expected to start, but Wilson will play, perhaps in a Wildcat role — similar to how BYU has been using its freshman quarterback, Taysom Hill.Wynn was 6-for-11 for 47 yards before he was injured against the Aggies. Hays took over the final series of the first half and played the entire second half. For the Cougars, the news is reminiscent of 2005, when Ute starting QB Brian Johnson was injured before the rivalry game, and backup Brett Ratliff led the Utes to a 41-34 overtime win in Provo.Utah's release also says that the Utah and BYU bands will perform together at halftime, and that Utah Gov. Gary Herbert will attend the game.An excerpt from Utah's release about its BYU connections: Three of Utah's coaches played at BYU, including head coach Kyle Whittingham from 1978-81. As a senior, he was the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-WAC linebacker. Ute defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake played fullback for the Cougars in 1994 and 1997-2000 and receivers coach Aaron Roderick was a BYU receiver from 1997-98. Cougar defensive line coach Steve Kaufusi was at Utah from 1994-2001 as a graduate assistant, defensive line coach and defensive ends coach. Former Ute defensive lineman Jason Kaufusi (2000-03) is now a BYU defensive graduate assistant. —
