A fire destroyed a detached garage Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

Firefighters were called out to a two-alarm blaze near 300 West and 900 South at 12:10 p.m. after witnesses reported a plume of smoke rising from a wooden garage, said Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay.

The flames brought down a power line and the heat from the blaze partially damaged the roof of Trail's Gentlemen's Club, which is next door to the garage. By the time firefighters had the blaze extinguished within the hour, the garage and everything inside it was a total loss, Asay said.

Investigators were combing the remains to try to determine a cause for the fire Saturday afternoon. They couldn't immediately reach the owner of the garage, but it appears the owner used the space for storing furniture and machinery instead of vehicles, Asay said.

He added that firefighters did a great job keeping the fire from spreading to any of the nearby businesses, and no one was injured.

Rocky Mountain Power had to shut off electricity to nearby buildings until they could repair the downed line, but expected power to be restored by the end of the day.
