NBA • Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake will be sidelined for at least three weeks after puncturing his left foot on a spike strip in a parking garage. The Lakers announced Blake's injury Monday. The veteran point guard will be held out of any impact exercises for about three weeks. Los Angeles opens training camp next Monday, Oct. 1, with its first preseason game Oct. 7. Newly acquired center Dwight Howard also won't be participating immediately in Lakers camp while recuperating from offseason back surgery.

Blake is expected to be Steve Nash's backup this season. Blake averaged 5.2 points and 3.3 assists last season for the Lakers in his second season with the club while primarily backing up Derek Fisher and Ramon Sessions.

Gold medalist was pregnant in London

olympics • Kerri Walsh Jennings says she was pregnant when she won her third beach volleyball gold medal. Walsh Jennings said on NBC's "Today" show Monday she is 11 weeks pregnant. That means she was already expecting her third child when she and Misty May-Treanor won the Olympic gold medal in London on Aug. 8. The two Californians also teamed to win gold in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008). Walsh Jennings is married to fellow beach volleyball pro Casey Jennings .

Busch to drivefor Furniture Row

NASCAR • Furniture Row Racing has hired Kurt Busch to drive for the Colorado-based team in 2013. Busch will replace Regan Smith in the No. 78 Chevrolet. Busch was the 2004 NASCAR champion, but he split with Penske Racing at the end of last season because of his many off-track incidents. This season, he drove for Phoenix Racing in the Sprint Cup series and his brother's Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Nationwide Series, where he won twice.

Talks fail to end hockey lockout

NHL • A meeting between top officials from the NHL and NHL Players' Association wasn't enough to break their labor stalemate. The sides spent almost five hours together on Monday going over accounting for last season, but didn't emerge with any plan to resume negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement to end the lockout, in its ninth day. The NHL has already called off all preseason games in September. The regular season is scheduled to start Oct. 11.
