West Valley City police arrested two men and a woman suspected of prowling a car dealership with the intention of stripping auto parts early Tuesday morning.

West Valley police Lt. Dale Brophy said an off-duty police officer working part time at the Henry Day Ford lot, near 4000 West and 3500 South, spotted the trio hanging around the lot about 2 a.m. When he went to question them, the three jumped into a truck and sped away.

The off-duty officer called 911 and a nearby West Valley officer spotted the suspect vehicle and gave chase. Another police unit laid out tire spikes at 2100 South and Bangerter which blew out the truck's tires.

The suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

Brophy indicated no stolen auto parts were found in the truck, but the three were arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of failure to stop at a police officer's command, fleeing law enforcement and trespassing. Bail was not immediately set.

One of the men additionally was booked on second-degree felony possession of a control substance (synthetic narcotics).
