Salt Lake City police arrested a suspected car thief, but not before he allegedly was involved in two hit-and-run accidents, a rollover crash and a brief foot chase.
Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson said that the 32-year-old suspect remained in the Salt Lake County jail Tuesday on $2,033 bail. He was being held on suspicion of second-degree felony receiving or transferring stolen property; two class B misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage; one class B misdemeanor reckless driving charge; and one class C misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.
Josephson said the suspect was arrested about 4 p.m. Monday, just two blocks away from where he allegedly rolled a Toyota 4 Runner, earlier stolen out of North Salt Lake. Earlier in the day, the suspect purportedly had driven the SUV through a fence at 785 W. Paxton Avenue, and run over a mail box at 691 W. Navajo Street.
