Salt Lake City police say a woman was in serious condition after her car was crushed by a semitrailer truck early Thursday.

The accident occurred about 5 a.m. at the intersection of 1700 South and 900 West. Details on the sequence of events leading up to the collision were not immediately available, a public dispatcher said, but it reportedly took firefighters about an hour to extricate the woman from the wreckage.

Salt Lake City police Lt. James Tracy said that the woman's car was lodged underneath the truck's trailer by the crash and then dragged 100 to 200 feet.

The truck driver was not injured.

Police are investigating which driver was to blame for the accident. Tracy said it was clear, however, that one of the vehicles had run a red light.
