No new talks have been scheduled, and the possibility of a full hockey regular season is quickly shrinking.

The union offered multiple options in response to the NHL's offer on Tuesday that called for an 82-game season and a 50-50 split of hockey-related revenues between owners and players.

Soccer • FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke has been hospitalized in Brazil because of a kidney infection, forcing him to miss the local World Cup organizing committee board meeting on Thursday.

Soccer's governing body said Valcke's condition isn't serious but he will need to stay in a Rio de Janeiro hospital for a few days.

Women's college basketball • Oakland University women's basketball coach Beckie Francis has been inspired by candid survivors of sexual abuse to speak out about her haunting childhood.

Francis tells The Associated Press she was sexually assaulted by her father from the age of 4 until seventh grade. He has since died.

Francis was prompted to speak out because of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
