A 2-year-old Uintah County girl died Thursday after her aunt ran her over in a driveway.

Uintah County Sheriff's authorities report that the girl, identified as Imagine Wissiup, was pronounced dead at the Uintah Basin Medical Center after she was struck by a vehicle about 4 p.m. Thursday in Fort Duchesne.

Authorities say the girl's 23-year-old aunt was driving a 2005 Durango. A friend of the aunt remembered that he needed something else from inside the home, police say, and when the aunt heard the rear door of the Durango close, she believed her niece and another child were inside.

The woman began to pull forward toward the home to wait for the friend and felt a bump. When she got out of the vehicle, she found that she had run over her niece, authorities say.

The investigation into the incident continues, though Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said that it appears it was "a tragic accident." No charges have been filed.
