The Oct. 22. Public Forum featured two well-written cases for switching our U.S. senator from Orrin Hatch to Scott Howell.
Paula Julander's testimony to Howell's statesmanship when they served together in the Utah Senate is compelling ("Howell's principles"). In "Hatch too extreme," Garth Pellett explained why he switched from 25 years of supporting Hatch to Howell: Hatch's recent moves away from balanced good government to the extreme fringe.
We can leverage the passion of these two good citizens two ways. First, regardless of our choice, those of us who do vote must convince our nonvoting neighbors to join us at the polls. Second, be sure to take a few extra minutes in the polling place to individually check our choices and not blindly pull the party lever.
Regardless of the outcome, all of Utah benefits when we take our citizenship seriously, join our friends at the polls and vote.
