Re "Too Many Mitts: Obama has earned another term" (Our View, Oct. 21)

Your endorsement of President Barack Obama is courageous in this state where far-right groupthink often seems to prevail. So was your endorsement of Gov. Gary Herbert, not the first choice of your more liberal readers ("Herbert for guv: Incumbent has earned another term," Our View, Sept. 30).

In both cases, these men represent what now passes for centrism in American politics. Our support for them underlines the crucial role The Trib plays in our community: providing an independent and well-balanced perspective on the issues that concern all of us.
