Drivers are warned that talking on the phone or texting while driving is dangerous. Why, then, do we allow our law enforcement officers to not only use their cellphones while driving, but laptops, too?
My sister was recently rear-ended by a Unified Police officer on I-215. She was not speeding and he was not trying to pull her over. His report is that he was looking down at his laptop, and when he looked up, he was colliding with her sedan.
Fortunately, the officer was uninjured. My sister was not so lucky. The fire department had to cut off the driver side door to remove her. She is being treated for her injuries.
I hope that some good can come from her traumatic experience, that police departments will look at their current policies and find a way to make doing their job while on the roads safer for everyone.
