Harmons book chat features 'Blood, Bones & Butter'

"Books and Bites," the monthly food and travel series sponsored by Harmons Grocery Stores, continues on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with a discussion of Gabrielle Hamilton's "Blood, Bones & Butter — The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef ."

I'm part way through Blood Bones & Butter and have found that Hamilton is not only a world-class chef, but also is a seasoned writer. Her compelling prose grabbed me from the opening pages as she details her childhood and the opening of her New York restaurant Prune — where she was ahead of the trend on gourmet comfort food. Here is a good review of the book from The New York Times.

The "Books and Bites" discussion begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Harmons Bangerter Crossing, 125 E. 12800 South, Draper. In addition to the chat, guests will enjoy food inspired by the book. Harmons chef Evan Francois has planned a menu of ginger beer pumpkin soup; roasted beets with aioli; and bagna cauda, a northern Italian dipping sauce for vegetables. Optional wine pairings are available.

Cost is $49 which includes a copy of the book and food. After registering online at http://www.harmonsgrocery.com participants will receive a copy of the book in the mail. Those who register less than six days before class can pick up the book at Weller Book Works or Harmon's.
