The list of schools that BYU has never played in football will grow shorter in 2015.
Thursday, BYU and the University of Cincinnati jointly announced that they have agreed to a home-and-home football series, with the 2015 game to be played at BYU's LaVell Edwards Stadium and the 2016 game to be played at Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium.
The 2015 game in Provo is set for Oct. 24 and will mark the first meeting between the schools. The 2016 game will be played on Nov. 12.
"I like this series with Cincinnati," said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe in a school news release. "It meets our objective of playing in different regions of the country and brings another quality football opponent to LaVell Edwards Stadium.
The Cougars are also scheduled to play Nebraska, Boise State, Utah State, Hawaii and Southern Miss in 2015. In 2016, they are already scheduled to play West Virginia, Boise State, Hawaii, Utah State and Utah.
Ohio State is the only college football program from the state of Ohio that BYU has faced, having met the Buckeyes in 1982, 1985 and 1993 in bowl games.
"We are very pleased to announce this home and home series with BYU," said Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock. "They have a storied history and we look forward to competing against an opponent of their caliber. It should be a wonderful addition to our home schedule in Nippert Stadium for our ticket holders as well as serving as a great student-athlete experience for our players when we travel to Provo."
Cincinnati has never played in Utah, but did meet Utah State in the 1997 Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho.
