A man was accidentally shot and killed Saturday afternoon in a canyon near Eagle Mountain.

Four men were out target shooting in Manning Canyon, an old mining area where people frequently go out with firearms, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. One of the men accidentally shot and killed a 24-year-old man, whom Cannon identified as Joshua Pratt Hooper from Salt Lake City. Police received the 911 call at 12:42 p.m.

Hooper was related to the other three men in the group, but Cannon did not say how closely they were related. Cannon said one man was getting ready to make a shot, and as he was moving, the rifle he was holding went off and shot Hooper in the head. He died immediately, Cannon said.

At this point, investigators do not think there was anything suspicious about Hooper's death.

The three men are "very shaken up," Cannon said. Hooper's body will be sent to the state medical examiner for further investigation.
