South Salt Lake police have identified a man stabbed to death during a brawl outside a strip club this weekend.
Police spokesman Gary Keller said Monday it was Dustin D. Hoffman, 27, of Bakersfield, Calif., who died in the parking lot outside the Southern X-Posure club, 3420 S. State St., on Saturday night.
A second, otherwise unidentified 29-year-old Salt Lake City man — a security guard possibly stabbed while trying to break up the fight — remained in serious condition at an unspecified hospital Monday. Keller said his vital signs had been stabilized and doctors reported he was improving.
Isaac Anthony Gallegos, 44, of South Salt Lake, remained in the Salt Lake County Jail Monday, booked on suspicion of aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide, evidence tampering and illegally possessing a weapon.
Keller said a fracas involving about 10 people erupted about 11 p.m. Saturday inside the strip club. The fight then spilled into the parking lot where Gallegos allegedly stabbed the two men.
Keller said detectives continued to investigate possible gang ties to the altercation. None of the club's dancers were believed to have been involved.
A probable cause statement contends that multiple witnesses said they saw Gallegos stab the two men with a weapon described as a knife. Police also say Gallegos attempted to discard the bloody clothes he was wearing during the fight. The clothing purportedly was later found by investigators.
Gallegos, a prison parolee, has a long criminal history, with court records showing convictions including one for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
