A West Valley City woman is facing multiple arson charges for allegedly setting a fire inside her boyfriend's mobile home.
Salt Lake County prosecutors on Friday charged the 20-year-old woman with one first-degree felony count of aggravated arson and one third-degree felony count of arson for the Sept. 10 fire at a West Valley City trailer park. No one was injured in the fire.
Court papers say a neighbor saw the woman enter the home and then saw flames coming from the residence soon after her departure.
In an interview with police, the woman said she went to see her boyfriend, but found he was not at home. She also told investigators she took an identification card from a purse she found in the home and lit it on fire, leaving it in the middle of the trailer's family room as she left, court papers say.
Fire investigators ruled the blaze an arson and said the home was completely destroyed. No damage estimate is included in court papers.
Court records show the woman is free on her own recognizance. An initial hearing date is set for Dec. 3.
If convicted, the woman faces a lifetime prison sentence.
