The Utah Highway Patrol has identified two women killed in a Tuesday afternoon multi-vehicle crash in Tooele County.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said Sloane F. Ackman, 49, and her daughter, Trista S. Ackman, 29, both were pronounced dead at the scene of the 4 p.m. crash on State Road 36, in front of the Chevron station at 8793 N. Lakepoint.

The Ackmans were driving their station wagon northbound on SR36 when they suddenly braked for a second vehicle, described as a black SUV. That resulted in a truck rear-ending them, and the impact propelled the Ackmans' car head-on into an SUV traveling south.

Neither of the women was wearing a seat belt, UHP said.

Johnson said troopers were investigating whether the black SUV was leaving the median as the Ackmans approached the accident scene, which ay have trigger the chain-reaction crashes. The black SUV had left the scene when troopers arrived.

Johnson said the driver of that vehicle had contacted the UHP on Wednesday and had been interviewed.
