West Valley City police Wednesday were investigating how a man ended up lying next to a city sidewalk with critical wounds.

Police Sgt. Mike Powell said the man suffered from possible gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. He remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Powell said police found the man when they responded about 1 p.m. to the area near 7135 W. 3500 South on a report of a possible shooting.

He said police were investigating the incident and that no one was currently in custody in connection with it.
