Re "Report: Time to raise governor's salary" (Tribune, Dec. 4):
Utah's independent Elected Official and Judicial Compensation Commission unanimously proposes a 36 percent raise for the governor (from $109,900 to $150,000) since the office hadn't received an increase for close to a decade.
The employees of the state of Utah received a 1 percent raise this year — the first in five years. If the Legislature grants this raise, one must assume that legislators feel the employees of the state make way too much, and the governor not nearly enough.
At a time when the country is struggling and most people have sacrificed their hard-earned raises because of hard times, Gov. Gary Herbert needs to step up and give the Legislature a lesson in fiscal responsibility and put an end to this proposal.
