Salt Lake City police want the public's help in locating the driver of a white minivan seen leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident Thursday night.

Police Detective Dennis McGowan said Friday that Mark Neiafu, 25, was struck and fatally injured about 6:30 p.m. Thursday as he rode his bicycle near 1800 W. California Ave.

Neiafu was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses told police they saw the minivan near the accident site, but it was unclear if the vehicle itself had hit Neiafu or was trying to avoid the collision between the bike and perhaps another vehicle.

Whether involved or a witness, police want to talk to the minivan driver.

Anyone with information about this matter is urged to call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
