college football • Mike MacIntyre turned around the San Jose State football program in short order and will be asked to do the same at the University of Colorado. On Monday, MacIntyre signed a five-year deal to coach the Buffaloes.

MacIntyre inherits a program that's had seven straight losing seasons, including a 1-11 record this year under Jon Embree that was the worst in the school's 123-year history.

San Jose State (10-2) is headed to the Dec. 27 Military Bowl in Washington, D.C. to face Bowling Green (8-4), two years after a 1-12 showing in McIntyre's first season. This is the first 10-win season in a quarter century for the 24th-ranked Spartans.

• Western Kentucky hired Bobby Petrino to coach the Hilltoppers. The 51-year-old Petrino replaces Willie Taggart, who left WKU Saturday to become South Florida's coach. Petrino was fired by Arkansas in April.

Park City halfpipe event postponed

winter sports • The U.S. Grand Prix in Park City featuring top Olympic contenders in both halfpipe skiing and snowboarding has been postponed until February. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the move to assure the highest quality halfpipe for competitors.

The events were scheduled for Dec. 21-22 at Park City Mountain Resort. The finals have been moved to Feb. 1-2.

Those expected to compete in freeskiing include Jen Hudak, David Wise, Maddie Bowman, Tucker Perkins, Brita Sigourney, Simon Dumont and Gus Kenworthy. Snowboarding competitors include Louie Vito, Hannah Teter, Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, Maddy Schaffrick, Matt Ladley, Elena Hight and Greg Betz.The FIS freestyle World Cup events remain scheduled for Deer Valley Resort on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, with the finals at night in both moguls and aerials.

Motocross series coming to Utah

Motorcycle racing • The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is coming to Miller Motorsports Park on Aug. 17. The 12-round series begins at Hangtown outside of Sacramento, Calif., in May. It ends at Lake Elsinore, Calif., in late August, just after the stop in Utah.

MMP management will construct a permanent course on the track's infield to accommodate Round 11 of the series, according to spokesman John Gardner.
