The thriller "Stoker" — premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival — marks the English-language debut of Korean director Park Chan-Wook, whose thriller "Old Boy" set a new mark for excitement and violence. So this isn't some mamby-pamby kind of movie.
"Stoker" centers on India (Mia Wasikowska), whose father (Dermot Mulroney) dies in a car accident — which prompts her uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode) to come live with India and her mother, Evelyn (Nicole Kidman). India starts developing an infatuation with Charlie, even as she suspects his ulterior motives.
The cast includes Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook"), and was written by the actor Wentworth Miller.
"Stoker" is one of the few movies at Sundance this year that already has its distribution in place: Fox Searchlight Pictures is releasing the film in March.
"Stoker" screens in the Premieres section of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
