Overstock donates

to Utah Food Bank employees donated 4,300 pounds of food and $22,000 to the Utah Food Bank in December. It was the fifth year employees donated to the Food Bank. The food drive was a competition with Overstock's corporate staff donating $10,000 while the company's customer and partner care and warehouse staff donated $12,000.

TownePlace Suites

to open in Vernal

An 85-suite TownePlace Suites by Marriott is scheduled to open on Tuesday in Vernal. Located at 1219 W. Highway 40, the hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise, managed by Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group of Provo.

Factory orders

flat in November

U.S. companies boosted their orders in November for manufactured goods that reflect investment plans even though total orders were unchanged. Factory orders were flat in November, compared with October, with durable goods — everything from automobiles to steel — rising 0.8 percent while nondurable goods fell 0.6 percent, the Commerce Department said.

Eli Lilly sees

strong 2013

Eli Lilly and Co. expects 2013 earnings of between $3.75 and $3.90 per share on $22.6 billion to $23.4 billion in revenue. Analysts had expected earnings of $3.72 per share on $22.87 billion in revenue. The drug maker lost patent protection on a top selling drug last year and will lose it on another this year but expects to overcome that through cost cutting, sales growth and new drug development.

Habit Burger to

open in SLC

A California-based burger chain is opening Habit Burger Grill in Salt Lake City on Jan. 10, its first Utah location. The restaurant, located 2121 S. McClelland, Suite 101, in old Granite Furniture building, will sponsor activities that are open to the public on Jan. 8-9 to benefit local charities.

REES Capital opens new offices

REES Capital unveiled its new offices in South Jordan. The offices were renovated from a former restaurant and are located at 651 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South). REES Capital was founded last year by Amy Rees Anderson, former CEO of MediConnect Global. Its purpose is to help guide and support start-ups and high-growth companies.

Samsung fined

for price fixing

Chinese regulators have fined South Korean companies Samsung, LG and four Taiwanese companies on charges they fixed prices of flat panel screens sold to Chinese manufacturers. The government said LG, Samsung and the Taiwanese companies were ordered to repay $27 million to Chinese customers. In addition, the companies were fined a total of $22.8 million.
