GOLF • Dustin Johnson, Mark Wilson and Nick Watney shared the lead Monday in Kapalua, Hawaii, after the wind-delayed first round of the Tournament of Champions. Three days behind schedule, the PGA Tour finally got its 2013 season started on the day its first tournament was supposed to finish. Johnson three-putted three times in five holes and still had a 4-under 69. That gave him a share of the lead with Wilson and Watney, who rolled in a long eagle putt on his last hole.

The 69s matched the highest score to lead after one round in 15 years this tournament has been held on the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

Snow College coach resigns

college football • Snow College football coach Tyler Hughes has stepped down from his position, the school announced Monday. Hughes, who led the junior college team to an 11-1 season and a No. 3 ranking in 2012, said he is leaving to get a master's degree in business administration.

Hughes joined the Snow College staff in 2004 and was named offensive coordinator a year later. Hughes took over the head coaching duties after Steve Coburn left in 2010.

In two years at the helm, Hughes amassed a 20-4 record. He was the 2012 Western States Football League coach of the year. The school has begun a search for his replacement.

Nevada hires A&M assistant

college football • Nevada athletic officials say they have reached an agreement with Texas A&M assistant Brian Polian to become the Wolf Pack's next football coach. The 38-year-old Polian was special teams coordinator and tight ends coach last season at Texas A&M. He also has coached at Stanford, Notre Dame, Central Florida and Buffalo. He will replace Chris Ault, who announced his retirement last month.

• All-American tight end Zach Ertz will forgo his final year of eligibility at Stanford to enter the NFL draft.

Messi, Wambach receive top awards

SOCCER • Lionel Messi became the first four-time winner of the FIFA Player of the Year award after shattering the world record with 91 goals last year for Barcelona and Argentina.

The 25-year-old won for the fourth straight time, beating Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta in voting announced Monday in Zurich. His 91 goals topped Gerd Mueller's mark of 85 for Bayern Munich and Germany in 1972.

Abby Wambach became the first American to win FIFA Women's Player of the Year since Mia Hamm in 2001 and 2002. Pia Sundhage was voted top women's coach after leading Wambach and the U.S. team to the gold medal at last summer's London Olympics.

Djokovic, Azarenka get top seeds

Tennis • Defending champions Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka will be the top-seeded players for the Australian Open. Organizers stuck closely to the latest rankings to seed 32 players for each of the men's and women's draws. The year's first Grand Slam tournament starts next week.

Djokovic is followed by Roger Federer, U.S. Open champion Andy Murray and David Ferrer. Ferrer replaces fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who has withdrawn because a stomach ailment delayed his comeback from a knee injury.

On the women's side, French Open champion Maria Sharapova is seeded second. Serena Williams, the reigning Wimbledon, Olympic and U.S. Open champion, is third.
