Epic Brewing of Salt Lake City said it plans to expand its operations to the Denver area.

Co-founders Dave Cole and Peter Erickson said they have signed a lease on a 19,000-square-foot building in the River North area of the city and plan to install a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom, along with a space for retail sales.

Epic's owners say they plan to be in the new facility by late March with an anticipated opening in April.

The new facility will use a twin-kettle system, allowing for a significant increase in production, and have an initial 480 barrels for fermentation.

"We anticipate we will be using approximately 1,000 wood barrels within the year," said Epic's Brewmaster Kevin Crompton.

Kyle Rossman, a brewer at the company's Salt lake City brewery, is slated to become the lead brewer in Denver.

"This is a much needed expansion to meet demand in the region and our markets further to the east, which are continuing to grow," Cole said.

The Denver brewer will produce Epic's four series of brews — 825 State Stout, Brainless Belgian-Style Golden Ale, Copper Cone Pale Ales and Hopulent IPA (India Pale Ale) — along with a "Classic" series line of three beers to include a lager, IPA and hoppy pale ale.
