Kaysville • Davis guard Abel Porter lobbed the ball from the wing, Cole Hally caught it at the apex of his leap, and collectively, the crowd grew quiet. One moment later, after Hally had forcefully slammed the ball over a Weber defender, the gym erupted.

The result wouldn't be final for 16 more minutes, but right then, the tide turned in favor of the Darts, and they never relinquished that momentum. They'd go on to finish off the Warriors 68-54 on Tuesday night in a highly anticipated battle of Region 1 rivals, who each came into the game with just one loss.

"We always try to get that going at the start of the half or the end of a quarter," Porter said of the alley-oop to Hally. "It gets the crowd into it and gives us a little more energy. It's just kind of a jumpstart to the second half that's nice to have."

Weber was down just three points at the half, but the alley-oop began a 5-0 run that gave the Darts the boost they needed to keep the Warriors at a distance. Later in the third, a string of three consecutive 3s from Porter and Jesse Wade put the Warriors away for good.

"We're all threats to score," said Wade, who led the Darts with 21 points. "That's the big thing about our team. There's not one or two players that put up the points. It happens all across the board."

Hayden Schenck kept the Warriors in it with a string of strong drives to the basket. The senior guard came in averaging more than 26 points per game, and finished with a game-high 22, but the Darts did enough to stop Schenck from beating them.

"He's a great player," said Wade, who guarded Schenck most of the game. "He's strong, and he gets to the basket just as well as anybody. It was a tough assignment, but my teammates helped a lot."

Coming in, both teams had played like contenders in Region 1. The Darts' win, along with their victory over Syracuse last week, gives them the early upper hand in the region race.

"It's nice to put a couple teams back so we have a little cushion going into the region," said Porter, who finished with 17. "Hopefully we can keep that." —
