The Utah Valley University men's basketball team went cold in the final 2 minutes and lost to Texas-Pan American 62-60 on Saturday in Edinburg, Texas.
Holton Hunsaker led Utah Valley State with 18 points. Ben Aird had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Antoine Hosely had 13 points, and Jason Johnson added 11 for the Wolverines (9-11, 1-2).
Johnson hit a 3-pointer to give UVU a 57-56 lead with 2:34 remaining, but the Wolverines (9-11, 1-2 Great West) made just one more basket — a 3-pointer by Hunsaker — the rest of the way.
Ruben Cabrera scored 19 points to lead the Broncos (10-10, 2-0).
Texas-Pan American led 32-27 at halftime. Texas Pan-American shot 40.8 percent from the field for the game, while Utah Valley shot 39.6 percent. However, Utah Valley won the rebound battle with 38, while Texas Pan-American had 32.
Salt Lake Community College 67, Snow College 66 • JuWan Buchanan hit a 16-foot shot with 4.1 seconds remaining to lift the Bruins to their 14th straight win. Skyler Halford led SLCC with 16 points, while Buchanan had 14 and Sai Tummala added 12.
Women's basketball
Utah State 85, Denver 69 • In Logan, Devyn Christensen scored 25 points, while Jennifer Schlott and Jenna Johnson added 12 each for the Aggies.
Sacramento State 103, Weber State 60 • In Sacramento, Calif., the Wildcats (0-17, 0-8 Big Sky) remained winless despite getting 12 points each from Jalen Carpenter and Kalie Matthews. The Hornets set a school record for their largest margin of victory against a Division I opponent.
Cal State Bakersfield 67, Utah Valley 65 • In Bakersfield, Calif., Sammie Jensen tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds but the Wolverines' second-half rally came up short.
Salt Lake Community College 55, Snow College 43 • In Ephraim, Rachel Morris had 16 points to lead the Bruins to the win.
