Utes land defensive end

Call it a sweep for the Utes in their bid to land their Euless, Texas recruits. Gaius Vaenuku, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end, committed to the Utes on Sunday. His commitment wasn't much of a surprise, considering the Utes had received commitments from his teammates Salesi Uhatafe, an offensive lineman, and Sam Tevi, a defensive end. Still, he was one of the few out-of-state recruits in which the Utes were competing against BYU, so no doubt his official commitment brought a little extra satisfaction for Utah's coaches. Texas Tech, TCU and Missouri were others among his final choices. Vaenuku's commitment gives the Utes some much needed depth for the defensive line, although they'd still like to add more depth. High on the wish list is Sese Ianu, a defensive tackle from Golden West College in Huntington Beach, who is also considering Arizona State, Oregon State, Boise State and Washington State. The Utes are planning to host two players this weekend in Pita Taumoepenu, a defensive end from Timpview H.S., and Kylie Fitts, a highly sought after defensive end who has visited Notre Dame, UCLA and USC. - Lya Wodraska
