Plans for tonight: Hard rock or ska

• Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein performs at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Opening act: Glass Cloud. Show starts at 6. Tickets are $16, at Smith's Tix.

• The Utah Jazz play host to the New Orleans Hornets (soon to be renamed the Pelicans), at EnergySolutions Arena, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Game starts at 7. Tickets available at Smith's Tix.

• Author and trivia nut (and, yes, record-holding "Jeopardy!" champ) Ken Jennings returns to Utah to read from and sign copies of his new book, Because I Said So, at The King's English, 1511 S. 1500 East, Salt Lake City. The event starts at 7. Free.

• The Toasters headline a ska night at Bar Deluxe, 666 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Mrs. Skannotto, 2 1/2 White Guys. Show starts at 9. Tickets are $12, at 24Tix.
