A man who allegedly barricaded himself with a gun inside a Kearns home with his wife and baby was taken into custody Friday afternoon after a three-hour standoff with police. The Unified Police Department reported that no one was injured.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said that officers were called to 5294 S. Heath Ave. (5030 West) in Kearns at about 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Hoyal said negotiators were in contact with the man, who holed up in the residence with his wife and their 4-month-old baby and had made threats of "harming himself and others."
A SWAT team made up of about 40 officers from the Unified Police Department and Unified Fire Authority was on the scene while the nearby Western Hills Elementary School was put under a lockdown until the end of the school day.
