A water rescue team recovered a man's body from the frigid water of a pond in Salt Lake City's Fairmont Park on Monday night.
Several people who came to the park to feed the ducks spotted the body in the Sugar House area park, 1040 E. Sugarmont Drive (2225 South) at about 9 p.m., KUTV reported.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department's water rescue team recovered the body just before 10 p.m.
Police have not identified the deceased, but said Tuesday he was 38 years old. It was not clear how long the man may have been in the pond or how he may have died.
The death was being treated as suspicious, and the state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, police said. The dead man's next of kin had not been contacted as of Tuesday morning, police said.
A second person — a 35-year-old man — was also at the pond and was wet, police said.
Fire department spokesman Jasen Asay said that person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Police said he was treated for exposure.
It was not clear Monday night whether the two men were acquainted or at the park separately.
