Don Shula's first Utah restaurant — a high-end steakhouse in Salt Lake City — closed several years ago. But the NFL Hall-of-Fame-coach-turned-restaurant-owner has decided to give the state another try.

On Tuesday, he was in West Valley City for the grand opening of Shula's 347 Grill, located inside the new Embassy Suites Hotel near Valley Fair Mall. The casual eatery, named for the number of Shula's career coaching wins, serves salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, fresh fish, ribs and steaks. Main dishes cost $9-$28. Steaks cost $37.

Matt DeCaire, who previously worked at the Sheraton in downtown Salt Lake City, is the executive chef. Sports fans will enjoy the interior of the restaurant which is decorated with photographs of local sports stars and landmarks of the area.

Shula's 347 Grill • 3524 South Market St., West Valley City; 801-966-3470. Open daily for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dinner served Sunday through Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 5 to 11 p.m.
