Sometime after, the report adds, Fotu supplied "Twisted" with a vehicle that allowed him to escape capture.
Police arrested and charged 25-year-old David Fresques who has the street moniker "Twisted" with three counts of first-degree felony aggravated murder and one count of aggravated attempted murder in the deaths of 35-year-old Omar Paul Jarman, 34-year-old Shontay Nichole Young and 26-year-old Danielle Lucero. A fourth person, 53-year-old Vickie Myers, survived being shot in the shoulder.
In court documents, prosecutors contend Fresques went from room to room inside the home, gunning down his victims.
Fresques was arrested one day after the shootings and is now being held without bond in the Salt Lake County jail.
A motive for the murders has not been identified, and no weapon has been recovered.
Fotu has a criminal history dating back to 1998 that includes convictions for felony aggravated assault, theft and criminal mischief and misdemeanor driving under the influence. In 2001 Fotu also pleaded guilty to a parole violation and was returned to the Utah State Prison to serve a year behind bars.
In February, prosecutors charged Fotu with third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault and retaliation against a witness, victim or informant for an alleged run-in with the manager of Colonial Village Motel, 1530 S. Main St., Salt Lake City. Prosecutors say Fotu pulled a gun on the manager and threatened to shoot him.
Fotu was arrested and booked into jail, but bailed out on Feb. 11 one day before the Midvale shootings.
Unified Police spokesman Justin Hoyal described Fotu's arrest Monday as "fortunate." He also said investigators do not believe the person on whom the probation check was performed is connected to the Midvale homicides. Hoyal declined to describe the relationship between Fotu and Fresques, saying the investigation is still active and, therefore, sensitive information has not been made public.
Fresques was sent to Utah State Prison in 2008 for robbery and was paroled in July 2010, but was returned to prison on a parole violation. He was most recently paroled in November, according to prison authorities.
