Recently, the Jazz purchased new AEDs.
Briggs decided to donate one of the team's old units to a high school without one. So he went to the Utah Athletic Trainers Association web site and sent an email to Becky Bailey. She is the trainer at American Fork and secretary of the organization.
"I asked her if she could find out who the needy schools in the state might be," Briggs said. "I got an email back pretty quickly that said, 'I'm a needy high school.' Since the need was there, we sent it to her."
Briggs said the Jazz were happy to help.
"From a legal standpoint, you're setting yourself up for liability by not having one," he said. "But the most important thing is saving lives. And they save lives."
Gordon Hayward is rolling.
In 18 games since returning from a midseason shoulder injury, Hayward averages 16.6 points and 3.5 assists. He has scored 20 points or more six times, after doing it only four times in the first 44 games this season.
The biggest change in Hayward since returning from the injury?
"His confidence level," coach Ty Corbin said. "The way he's attacking. We're putting the ball in his hands and he's making great decisions.
"When he has a shot, he takes the shot. When he turns the corner, he's making good passes and making great drives and putting a lot of pressure on the defense."
In Wednesday night's 103-88 win over Phoenix, Hayward scored 25 points, only two shy of his season-high.
"I'm just trying to play hard trying to compete, trying to make plays for my teammates and myself," Hayward said. "My main focus has been on the defensive end and transitioning that to offense."
Hayward has started the last seven games, after coming off the bench since mid-November. He's averaging 17 points in 37.9 minutes since his return to the starting lineup.
"It hasn't made too much of a difference," Hayward said. "I mean, it's more minutes and that helps. But throughout the season, we've played so many different lineups that it didn't matter who was out there at the beginning of the game."
Since starting again, Hayward has made 42 of 83 shots, including 16 of 29 from the 3-point line.
