Adam Gunn pitched seven shutout innings as Utah Valley opened Great West Conference play with 3-1 win at NJIT on Friday.

Gunn struck out seven and allowed only three hits to pick up the win while a pair of two-out rallies — both involving freshman Greyson Bogden helped end a six-game skid for UVU (10-17, 1-0). The victory also extended the Wolverines' Great West regular-season winning streak to 30.

"Adam pitched great and stayed out of trouble. He commanded the zone and we made nice defensive plays behind him too," UVU coach Eric Madsen said. "I thought a lot of guys made nice adjustments at the plate today. [NJIT pitcher Tripp] Davis is a great arm and I thought did a lot of good things offensively."

Locked in a pitcher's duel between Gunn and Davis, the game was scoreless until the sixth. With two outs and nobody on, Riley White tripled to the wall in right center and later scored when Bogden singled to right for the first run of of the game.
