A triple homicide at an eastern Idaho residence where two men and a woman were shot and killed has led officials into Utah, where local authorities are assisting in the investigation.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office, in eastern Idaho, confirmed Friday they are working with the Box Elder County, Utah, Sheriff's Office to track down leads, potential witnesses and persons of interest in the investigation on both sides of the Idaho-Utah border.

A search warrant was executed Thursday evening at a home in Box Elder County, though no arrests were made. The Tremonton Leader reported detectives searched a residence in Garland.

Oneida County officials said in a news release Friday the killings are not believed to be random and it appears the victims knew their attacker. Officials declined to offer more information about the search, citing the ongoing investigation.

According to local authorities, the bodies of 61-year-old Brent L. Christensen, 32-year-old Trent Jon Christensen and 27-year-old Yavette Chivon Carter were discovered last week outside Holbrook — a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line.

Brent Christensen is Trent Christensen's father, and Carter is Trent Christensen's girlfriend.

The couple had a 2-year-old and an infant, who was found in the dead mother's arms. Both children were unharmed, Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad told reporters last week. The children have been turned over to one of the grandmothers.

Semrad said cash and 38 marijuana plants valued at $95,000 were in the house, which was still being examined for evidence Sunday. He also said 64 pit bulls at the property were used for fighting, and that some were being boarded by Brent Christensen for other people. He said the names police have come across are not local but are from other parts of southern Idaho and northern Utah.

Autopsies on the victims were performed last Saturday but officials declined to release details. They also declined to speculate about what type of weapon may have been used in the killings or the types of injuries received.

The investigation is ongoing.
