The Utah Highway Patrol confirmed Monday that a Layton man involved in a weekend double-motorcycle crash had died.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said Matthew McCullough, 40, was pronounced dead 11 p.m. Sunday.

McCullough was riding his black 2005 Harley Davidson northbound on Interstate 15 near 2600 South in North Salt Lake when he crashed with another motorcycle about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Johnson said troopers believe McCullough was following another rider too closely, and when the second man began to brake, McCullough collided with him.

Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles by the impact. McCullough suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital in Salt Lake City. The second rider was treated for minor injuries at the accident scene and released.
