Park City is about to launch a $15 million overhaul of Main Street infrastructure that includes utilities and sidewalks.

The first phase of the 10-year project could begin as early as next week.

But a spokeswoman for the Historic Park City Alliance business group said shoppers and merchants should not worry about inconvenience because the first phase includes only work from Fourth Street to Fifth Street on both sides of Main. Work will be accomplished in 100-foot sections and a walkway will remain open so pedestrians will not be forced to cross the street.

Workers from Murray-based Miller Paving will install new granite sidewalks and curbs and refurbish historic light posts, said alliance Executive Director Alison Butz. Crews also will replace fiber optic cables and install new water meters.

Questar Gas also will replace two sections of 60-year-old gas mains with plastic pipe. It could take six weeks to complete.
