I appreciated Ann Price's thoughtful and sadly true letter, "Water use abuse" (Forum, April 18). We do live in a desert climate, and we recklessly waste the precious, limited resource of our water.

So, it was a welcome change when I recently dined at the Avenues Bistro on Third, where on the tables were small, empty water glasses and a carafe of water. Diners could fill their glasses as they wanted.

It seems like such a huge waste when restaurants have large water glasses on tables that are kept full by the attending staff, only to throw so much away at the dinner's end. If restaurants put the Avenues Bistro practice into place, how many thousands of gallons of water would be saved?
