The efforts of Jackson Stevenett and Tayler Anderson for the Southern Utah men's and women's basketball programs were recognized as each was honored as the respective Athletes of the Year.

"I was so surprised to receive this award," said Anderson, who became the women's all-time leader games plays, 120. "All of the other girls deserved it just as much as I did."

Anderson reached top-10 career totals in rebounds (627), assists (246) and steals (131). She also earned Academic All-Conference honors following each of her first three seasons at Southern Utah. The native of Lyman, Wyo., will graduate with a degree in psychology.

Stevenett led the Thunderbirds in scoring (17.6) and rebounding (6.1) for the second consecutive season in 2012-13 and was named second-team all-Big Sky. He led the conference in free throw percentage and was third in scoring.

"It was pretty humbling and a great honor to receive the award," Stevenett said. "Considering the other athletes who were nominated, it was pretty cool to be considered in the same boat with them."

Stevenett goes into the Southern Utah record book with 1,573 career points, the fifth-most in school history, and 502 rebounds, the eighth-highest total.
