A motorcyclist died Thursday after he drove off the road in Payson Canyon.

Utah dispatchers got a call about the crash at 7:14 p.m. Alexander L. Davis, 19, of Payson, was found near Peteetneet Creek, a 20-foot drop from the road, about a mile south of the Maple Dell Scout Camp, said Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

It is not clear when the accident occurred, Cannon said. The road is not frequently traveled this time of year.

It appeared Davis was unable to negotiate a left-hand curve, according to a news release. The road in the area is narrow and winding.

Davis suffered trauma around his head and face despite wearing a helmet. Emergency responders tried to resuscitate him for almost an hour.
