Uintah County authorities on Tuesday were responding to a report of possible explosion and fire in an oil well site near Myton.
Emergency personnel from both Uintah and Duchesne counties were responding to the scene, the Uintah County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Dispatchers confirmed the fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. by a 911 caller. The site, about three miles south of Myton in eastern Utah's Uinta Basin, is owned by Newfield Exploration Co., dispatchers confirmed.
No one answered a phone number for the company office in Myton and a telephone message left with a public relations line at Newfield's corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas, was not immediately returned Tuesday night.
According to a Salt Lake Tribune story from August 2012, Newfield Exploration has invested more than $1.7 billion in Utah holdings and is the state's largest oil producer, with more than 230,000 acres either operating wells or under development.
In 2012, Newfield was producing about 30 percent of all Utah crude oil — twice the amount of the second- and third-ranking companies.
