It appears that Yuba Reservoir has produced another record northern pike. State wildlife officials are waiting for the paperwork and an official weight, but a 45-inch pike caught by Vladan Zoranovic of Salt Lake landed over the weekend is expected to shatter the exisiting angling record of 25 pounds landed in 2002 at Yuba.
The fish unofficially weighed in at 27 pounds. It may have lost some weight before Zoranovic got it to the scales, but should still beat the record. Yuba State Park officials report that a 26-pound pike was also caught at Yuba last week.
For the record, the longest - and likely heaviest - northern pike documented in Utah was the 49 3/4 inch monster caught at Lake Powell in 1998. That fish is the current catch and release record.
